If I were to repeat this project there would be several things I would do differently. First, before adding any starfish I would test to see if there was any chemicals in the water. This is because 19 out of 20 of my starfish eventually died, and the suspected cause was a copper based substance in the water.
Another thing I would change would be the testing time. The plan was to leave each starfish in the experimental tank for 24 hours. However, I was pressed on time due to the fact that the starfish were dying to quickly. Therefore, the starfish were left in the tank for different amounts of times, but never less than half an hour. Most tests were either an hour or a day. On the hour tests, I would watch the starfish move for most of the hour, and the starfish seemed to move the most in the first 5 to 10 minutes and then stay in the same place for the rest of the hour.
